Fostering

Want a pet now, but can't make a 15-year commitment? Have time and space to help a homeless animal? Want to make a HUGE difference in the life of an animal? If you answered yes, then you could be a perfect foster care parent!

Foster care parents allow Halifax Humane Society to shelter more animals by vacating cages that would otherwise be occupied by underage or recovering animals. Foster families provide extra individualized care for the neediest shelter animals.  Different pets have different needs, so you may choose what type of foster family that you would like to be. You can instill confidence by giving extra TLC to a scared or unsocialized dog or cat, provide love and a safe place to grow for puppies and kittens too young for adoption, run a rehab for a pet recovering from illness or injury, or be a campaign manager for an adoptable animal who just needs to be shown off.

You will watch amazing transformations as foster pets become healthy, confident, and ready for a forever home.
