I have a kittens or a cat under my porch. Will you come out to get them?

HHS is not authorized to pick up or trap animals. Trappers, TNR (trap, neuter, return) Organizations, and Animals Control bring the animals to us so they can be cared for or if a feral cat then spay/neutered, ear clipped, vaccinated, and then the party that brought the cat or kittens to us comes back, picks up the animal, and returns it to the area where it was trapped originally.

What is the mission of Halifax Humane Society?

The Halifax Humane Society exists to protect animals from cruel, neglectful and exploitative treatment. It is the belief of the Society that all living creatures possess an intrinsic value, which is manifested in its creation. Further, the Society believes that mankind must become a responsible steward of animals which he has domesticated and brought under his control.

The Society shall maintain programs and services, which embrace that principle:

  • - Maintain a shelter facility to provide for the needs of lost, forsaken and abandoned animals;

  • - Educate and continually acquaint the citizens, particularly children, with the ethics of kindness and compassion, thereby engendering respect for all living beings;

  • Investigate complaints of animal abuse and correct those situations by way of education, or if need be prosecution;

  • - Prevent the overpopulation of domestic animals by providing affordable spay and neuter opportunities to the public, while making certain that animals adopted from the Shelter never contribute to the problem

 

Is Halifax Humane Society funded by tax dollars?

Halifax Humane Society receives no federal or state funding, nor do we receive funding from any national humane organizations. We rely on private donations from individuals, corporations, and grants.

 

What services does the Halifax Humane Society provide?

Halifax Humane Society has over 36 programs servicing the animals of Volusia County. Each year, Halifax Humane Society services over 25,000 animals through the variety of programs and services at our facility. Services include: Adoption, Spay/Neuter, Summer camp, Shelter Tours & Education, Events, and much more!

 

What kinds of animals does Halifax Humane Society help?

As an open door animal shelter, Halifax Humane Society refuses no animal. While the majority of our "adoptable pets" are dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and other small creatures we do take in all animals. We work with a variety of foster and transfer partners to provide homes for animals in need.

 

How can I help?

Monetary donations can be made online through our secure website, by phone or mail to our facility, or by visiting in person. If you are interested in remembering the animals in your will, we are happy to send you information for wills and bequests to benefit the Halifax Humane Society.

Fundraising events are another way to help the animals in our care. We host a variety of events for both humans and four legged friends that help raise funds for the animals at Halifax Humane Society.

Volunteering is a great way to get involved with us by donating time to our shelter. Our Volunteer 2.0 program provides a variety of ways to spend your time with us. Depending on your interest, volunteers can participate in a variety of tasks including socializing animals, helping at events, and even administrative tasks.

​

We also welcome in-kind donations from our wish list. In addition, our HHS Thrift Store accepts donations funds from the Thrift Store are donated directly to our facility.
